In Times Like These

Some times it is confusing to figure out relationships. Friendships are by no means easier but a relationship...yeah now that's hard. This past week I have been so confused on what to think about them and just praying about it and talking with God. I find it pointless to date if you are not considering marriage, but what happens when the idea comes up? I haven't had the best marriage examples around me growing up and I have had my fair share of engagement mishaps, so then what am I to do? I have gone through my times of evil bitterness about relationships and have let myself close up to any idea of a relationship. And when I hear stories of failed ones, I congratulate myself for not being that person, but when I am around ones that do work, I start to wonder maybe they aren't too bad.

But this past week has just been so confusing. Really confusing. I mean I am surrounded by people who, not only do I love them, but sometimes make me question the thought of marriage. Why does it work? How does it? What happens if this happens and you don't have paticence? Wouldn't it be easier to just give up? But then I started thinking wait, I have been in this confusing position before three years ago and I remember exactly how I dealt with it. I read the Bible and Prayed a lot!!!! My whole journal for about six months was all about this idea of relationships and how to figure it out in times like these.

I remember stumbling upon this song 'Wedding Dress' by Derek Webb and it amazed me how perfect that song was and how it made me confusion just slip away. Praise the Lord, huh?! Here are the lyrics:

If you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
Should that be all I'd ever need
or is there more I'm looking for

and should I read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
To make me handsome, rich, and wise
Is that really what you want

I am a whore I do confess
But I put you on just like a wedding dress
and I run down the aisle
and I run down the aisle
I?m a prodigal with no way home
but I put you on just like a ring of gold
and I run down the aisle to you

So could you love this bastard child
Though I don't trust you to provide
With one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side

I am so easily satisfied
by the call of lovers so less wild
That I would take a little cash
Over your very flesh and blood

Because money cannot buy
a husband's jealous eye
When you have knowingly deceived his wife

Then I got to thinking about how God loves his wife, the church and how that is how husbands are to love. Found in Ephesians 5:22-33 The most striking and reassuring verse is (25) 'Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her...' Oh okay, now I see it is not too bad right? As long as I keep my eyes on that then I am fine right?!

I kind of like this.
